Group email from 12/26/14

THE WEEKS ARE LIKE DAYS AND THE DAYS ARE LIKE WEEKS!

oh my gosh, it is crazy to me how the time goes here in the mtc, the days feel like they drag forever and then the weeks go by so fast. the language is super hard and i feel like i am making my own language of portuguese and english and spansih and i dont know how to communicate with everyone but yet everyone still wants to talk to me. at least i make them all laugh hahahah! because they think i am funny. but the classes are good, i have the most amazing district here so that makes the days feel better. we are like a little family.

for chirstmas it was great cause i got to call home and then after we just watched movies and watched the christmas devotional from russel m nelson at the provo MTC. i forgot my notes so i dont have any of them on me. but i will send more next week. they dont give alot of time here in the mtc to email so i am kinda in a hurry. but then we played a crazy game of uno haha. we had brazillians, spanish, and americans all at one table playing and we had like 10 kids and we all were yelling and spaking broken enlgish and portuguese. but it was amazing. when else whill i ever have that happen??

i miss you all like crazy and love you all so much. sorry these are so short. everyone says it gets better once your out of the mtc. and i can sned pictures then too!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS. it doesnt feel like christmas when i see a plam tree outside and its 85 degrees but it is beautiful

love

Group email from 12/19/14

**(I know this is a week late but last week she typed in my wrong email address for the group email)**

so these computers are super confusing and i dont know how to set up a group email. and i only have 45 min. so ill just copy and paste it to people until i have more time, but show this to dad and kory and aaron.

first off, my MTC district are the most amazing people. i love them all so much, we are a group of 5 but just got a third sister yesterday so now we are a group of 6. i is crazy to me how fast we have gotten so close cause we ahve only known eachother for like 10 days. but anyways. day one we are sittting in the classroom and the teacher comes in ONLY SPEAKING PORTUGUESE. and i was like im sorry i dont know what youre saying. so none of the teachers speak english to you unless you seriously have NO idea what they are saying and then they will speak a little. and when our teacher makes a joke and wants us to laugh sometimes he will say it in english. but my comp is now sister illu and sister herbert. both from utah. there is another sister here who is my soul sister she is named sis gardner. shes the best.

at meals sometimes we sit with the brazllians. the brazlian elders love it cause they love american girls ahaha. but we cant understand crap what they are saying so i just act out what i am trying to say and we all just laugh and have a good time. my favorite elders just left and we just got 80 more.. 80.. so many.. and they are all kinda scared of us rgith now but we will get them warmed up to us.

everyone thinks im brazillian and trys to speak portugues to me and i just look at them like a deer in head lights. HAHAH!

the second day we were here we had to teach a lesson in just portuguese. it was so scary. me and sister illu just made a script of everything we wanted to say and then read it and our lesson only lasted like 10 min. and then we didnt write down how to ask if we could come back so we tryed acting it out and we just looked like idiots.. hahah they are going to flim us this week and then we have to WATCH HOW WE TEACH.. hahah and i have to hear it too HAHA!! it will be a party.

there is this thing called missionties.com i guess it is like dear elder and you guys can send me letters through it. im not sure how it works exactly. but i cant print letters here and they do all that. all the elders here say that if you just go to the website all the info is on there. they all love it!

on tuesday we watched meet the mormons and at the end when they showed utah i started crying and yelled. THOSE ARE MY MOUNTAINS AND MY MALL.. so you can imagine how that went haha. all the sitsers from utah cried though cause it all remineded us of home. how rude huh!! im kidding, but it was nice cause it was in ENGLISH!! YAYAYA!!!

i dont get alot of time to email!! but i love you guys and miss you all so much! i look at pictures everynight of everyone and it makes me so happy. i cant wait to hear from you guys! thanks for writing me!

This is the MTC president and his wife with the missionaries that flew in with Arrie. The other sister in this group will be her companion for the 6 weeks she's in the MTC.

I made it!

Hi parents! I made it here to brazil, and I hope I got your emails right! we flew to alanta and then got on the plane and the flight was long, I feel like I\ve been gone for weeks haha! But all of us got to sit togther on the plane so that was nice. I got my companion is Sister Illu (E.U) she is from west valley and is really nice. I don't know what else to say! They take really good care of the sisters, when we got off the plane and the car came and picked us up the man who picked us wouldnt let me or sister Illu or I put our bags in the car they made the elders do it for us, and we had to walk in the front of everyone! it was so funny.

Two of the elders we are with (the one you saw when i was checking in) one is from sacramento, but he isnt a giants fan so thats lame. then Two more elders and sister Illu met up with us in SLC and we picked up one more elder in Alanta, Two of the elders are both going to Natal! So that will be fun, that we will be with eachothers thoughout the whole mission!!

Anyways, I don't have a ton of time, but ill email you guys next week with pics! send me kory and aarons email too!

I love you guys!!

xoxo

The Adventure Begins

It's been a crazy ride since Arrie opened her mission call in July. Back then it seemed like it would be forever before she would be on her way and now the time has finally come. Last night she was set apart as a missionary in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to teach the people of Natal Brazil about their savior Jesus Christ and His restored gospel.
The Airport became an adventure. Robert was thinking that Arrie was flying out on United Airlines. He also thought that terminal 2 was for United Airlines. When we walked into the terminal we saw that terminal 2 is Delta Airlines. We all rushed over to terminal 1 and walked up to the counter to check Arrie in. Then she looked at her paperwork and realized she's flying out on Delta so we all rushed back to terminal 2.  I guess that's what we get for not double checking before we left the house.
As we lifted her first suitcase on the scale at Delta it was 52 lbs. Oh well, I guess we were going to be paying out to get all her stuff there with her. Then the attendant informed us that Brazil allows 2 checked bags, each 70 lbs, not 50 lbs. Dang, she could have brought so much more crap. We then opened her carry on that weighed a ton and a half and moved all her books and everything else she wouldn't need to see again until she got to Brazil to her big bags.  Her carry on was suddenly much easier to maneuver.
As we finished checking her in we overheard 2 elders speaking to a man near us saying they were going to the San Paulo MTC. Yeah, my baby girl was not alone. We walked over and talked to them. They both had been at the Provo MTC for 3 weeks and finally got their visa's to go to Brazil.
Now all checked in it was time for the hard part, good-byes. We all walked up to security and gave quick hugs. Like pulling off a Band-Aid it's always easier if it's quick.
And off she went. We watched as she made her way through security and meet back up with the elders who we had just meet. It's a strange emotion of happiness, concern and pride to see her off on her adventure to serve the Lord. The emotion is so strong that it seems to leak out of your eyes a little bit but no huge break down for this momma, I promised my baby girl I would cry and I will keep my promise. From now on we will be sharing Arrie's letters and experience on this blog. We thank everyone for the love and support you have shared with our family and our sweet missionary.
